Leila Miqdadi Al-Qattan Library

In the beginning of 2000, the deceased, Ibrahim Abu-Lughod, occupied the founding director of A.M Qattan Foundation position. During his tenure, he donated a collection of books from his own library to establish an educational library at the foundation’s old building in Al-Masyoon/Ramallah. From there, the library gradually started acquiring more books and creating a vision of its content, orientations, and the audience it will target. The library was part of the Educational Research and Development Programme and primarily targeted educators and researchers in the field of education. The ERDP has also established a similar library in Gaza. The Library’s collection culminated in 21 thousand books in the fields of education, culture, and the arts, 5 thousand journals in Arabic and English, and 4 databases. During those years, the library attracted an audience of visitors and friends and became a key reference for university students and researchers, especially in the field of education. Besides, the library held its specialised programmes such as symposiums, book launches, artists and authors talks, school students gatherings, and book discussions.

With the inauguration of the Cultural Centre, the library, along with the foundation, moved to the new building. The new library premises have a more spacious interior and consist of two floors as well as they encompass 30 thousand books and journals. The library offers its visitors a quiet environment for work and research, in addition to the opportunity of participating in the foundation’s educational and cultural events. A special children room called “The House of Tales” was designed inside the library, which includes unique children books and provides new perspectives on writing and drawing for children. The room’s furniture was especially designed to accommodate the needs of children and attract them. It is open to children and their parents for reading, researching, and dialogue.
